On Thursday 18th June, a group of Clifton High School Year 9 pupils had the exciting opportunity to have their voices heard on a national platform, as part of BBC Radio 4’s Inside Science programme, which aired at 4.30pm.

This unique project came about through collaboration with a BBC producer (who is also a Clifton High parent!) working alongside the Inside Science team. Together, they invited our pupils to engage with an important and timely issue: the UK Government’s proposed ban on social media use for under-16s.

In response to the announcement, our Year 9 pupils recorded a series of thoughtful, insightful questions exploring the implications of the proposal. These questions were then put to a panel of experts who have advised the government and contributed to the research behind the policy discussions.

The recording took place here at Clifton High School, and it was a proud moment to see our pupils contributing meaningfully to a national conversation around digital citizenship, wellbeing and the role of technology in young people’s lives.

We are incredibly proud of the confidence, curiosity and critical thinking our pupils demonstrated throughout the process. Their involvement reflects our commitment to nurturing engaged, informed young people who are ready to participate in wider societal debates.

You can listen to the programme on catch-up here.
