Joining The Infant School

The exciting first steps of walking into The Infant School marks the beginning of new experiences and opportunities on child's future journey of personal and academic development.

Whether this is your child's first step in joining Clifton High School, or they are moving up  from our Hive Pre-School, they will be well cared for by our team of friendly and warm staff members.  We understand that starting or changing school is an important milestone in your child's journey with their emotional and mental readiness nurtured during their transition.

Our Admissions Team are here to welcome and guide all new Infant School families on their Clifton High School journey. Whilst the majority of children join in Reception, we do accept applications for entry into Year 1 and Year 2, where places are available.

1. VISIT US

We warmly welcome all families to book an individual tour with one of our Admission Team or attend one of our Open Events. This bespoke visit enables parents and children to engage with current pupils, teachers and our vibrant community.  

We encourage all families to enquire at their earliest opportunity so we are able to provide them with the best availability.

2. COMPLETE A REGISTRATION FORM

Please complete and submit our registration form. Thereafter, the Admissions Team will contact you to arrange for your child to attend a Stay and Play morning or a Taster Day.

3. TASTER DAY AND REFERENCE

For entry into Reception, your child will be invited to a Stay and Play morning where they will be able to play alongside other Reception children.

For entry into Year 1 and 2, your child will be invited to a Taster Day where they can meet new friends and experience a typical day at Clifton High School. The class teacher will spend relaxed one-to-one time so to assess their abilities in English and Mathematics.

We also ask for permission at this stage to contact each child's current Nursery, Pre-School or School setting for a confidential reference. For entry into Year 1 or Year 2, we will also request a copy of your child’s most recent school report.

4. MEET THE HEAD OF INFANT AND JUNIOR SCHOOL

Our bespoke admissions process offers parents the opportunity to meet with Mrs Sarah Barker, Head of EYFS, who is supporting Mrs Alice Taylor, Head of Infant and Junior School, in her role until her return from maternity leave in May 2024. 

5. OFFER PACKET SENT

After this straightforward process, our Admissions Team will send out offer letters, celebrating your family’s choice of entrusting Clifton High School with your child’s education and to formally invite you to join our community.

6. ACCEPTANCE LETTER

Finally, the choice is yours to accept our offer and embark upon the next stage of the Clifton High journey with us as you become a cherished member of our School. At this stage you also complete your acceptance paperwork and pay the required deposit.

7. TRANSITION DAY AND INFORMATION EVENTS

Once enrolled at Clifton High School, children will be invited to attend our fun and engaging 'Move on Up Morning' in the Summer Term, and parents to Year Ahead information events including Welcome Drinks and a BBQ. This allows families to learn more about the opportunities that come with being a member of our School. 

Please do not hesitate to contact our friendly Admissions Department at any time, who are always happy to answer any further questions families may have and will provide you with all of the information you need about School life, purchasing uniforms and arrangements for your child’s start date. Once your child is enrolled in the School, your child’s class teacher will then be your first point of contact.
