Joining our Senior School is an important milestone that signifies growth and progress from a nurturing and familiar environment to a more challenging and diverse setting.
Whether you are joining Clifton High School for the first time, or you are moving up from our Junior School, you are in safe hands. It marks the beginning of new experiences and opportunities for pupils as they continue their educational and co-curricular pursuits.
We are delighted that you are considering joining the school community. You will be guided through our admissions process below and after taking the first step, you will be supported on an individual basis by our friendly team.
Our Admissions Process
1. VISIT US |

Your journey begins with a warm invitation to one of our upcoming Open Events, or by scheduling a private tour. By visiting the School site, you will be able to speak to our current pupils and teachers, see our excellent facilities and get a feel for our vibrant community. |
2. COMPLETE A REGISTRATION FORM |
Simply fill out our registration form submit it to us along with your child's recent school report. The Admissions Team will then be in touch with you about different opportunities for your child, including a Year 7 Experience Day and information about the entrance examinations, scholarships and bursaries |
3. TASTER DAY AND REFERENCE |
Your child will then be invited to a Year 7 Experience Day, where they can meet friends and experience the joy of a typical day at Clifton High School first hand. They will not be assessed on this taster day, it is simply an opportunity for both parties to ensure the school is the right fit. During the Experience Days, the Head of School will meet with small groups of children during the day to get to know them on a more personal basis. |
4. ENTRANCE EXAMS |
Any children who attend an Experience Day will then be sent an invitation to attend Entrance Examinations in January (6th January 2024 or 13th January 2024) . When you register your child for entrance exams, you will be able to register your interest in a Scholarship (Music, Sports and Individual Brilliance) or a Bursary, which is support means tested on household finances. These help us to understand your child's strengths, ensuring a fair assessment of their abilities. At present, these examinations are in English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. These examinations are prepared by the Head of English and Mathematics at Clifton High School and we do not provide past papers. All candidates are considered for Academic Scholarships from the results of the entrance examinations, references and school reports. Clifton High School will contact the current school of those who register for the Entrance Examinations to obtain a confidential reference. |
5. SCHOLARSHIP ASSESSMENTS |
Candidates for Music and Sport Scholarships will be invited to their respective assessments in the first 2 weeks of January. Music candidates are typically working at Grade 3 or above in at least one instrument, and Sports candidates are usually working at County level in at least one sport. For those who have applied for Individual Brilliance Scholarships, they will be asked to provide a portfolio or evidence of their talent or skill to the Admissions Department by the 6th January 2024. For those who have been shortlisted for an Academic Scholarship, they will be contacted to attend an interview with the Head of School by the 19th January 2024. |
6. OFFER PACKET SENT |
After this extensive process, our admissions team will send out offer letters to successful candidates at the end of January, celebrating your child's achievements and formally inviting you to join our community. Entry into the school in Year 7 is a competitive entry point and the school will run a waiting list for entry from the results of the Entrance Examinations. |
7. ACCEPTANCE LETTER |
Finally, the choice is yours to accept the offer and embark on the next stage of the journey with us and become a member of our Clifton High School family. Should you wish to accept our offer, then you will be asked to complete the acceptance paperwork and make a deposit payment to secure your child’s place. |
8. TRANSITION DAY AND INFORMATION EVENTS |
Once you are enrolled in our School, children will be invited to attend our fun filled transition event, ‘Six Mix’, and parents to year ahead information events as well as other events such as Welcome Drinks and BBQ’s. This allows everyone to meet peers and learn in more detail about the opportunities that come with being a member of Clifton High School. Our friendly Admissions Department is always happy to answer any further questions families may have and will provide you with all of the information you need about school life, purchasing uniforms and arrangements for your child’s start date. Once your child is enrolled in The School, your child’s class teacher will then be your first point of contact. |
