BRIGHT GREEN WEEK 2026

Pupils explored the impact of food waste on the environment through fundraising, sustainability workshops and practical actions during Bright Green Week.

This year's Bright Green Week focused on the important theme of Food Waste and Our Environment, encouraging pupils to consider the impact of their choices and take positive action for a more sustainable future.

The week began with an impressive fundraising challenge, as Year 7 pupils completed a 12-mile walk while carrying out a litter pick in support of their chosen local eco charity, Avon Wildlife Trust. Despite tired feet and aching legs, their efforts were rewarded with the news that they had raised £700 to help protect and support local wildlife.

At Sports Day, pupils contributed to a pledge tree, committing to simple but meaningful actions they can take to reduce food waste in their daily lives. These pledges highlighted the collective commitment of the school community to making a positive environmental impact.

Pupils also took part in engaging workshops led by Alex from Bristol-based Generation Soil. They learned about the importance of soil health and discovered the vital role healthy soil plays in supporting ecosystems and food production. One of the highlights was the opportunity to listen to the soil itself, with pupils fascinated to learn that healthy soil is actually louder due to the increased activity of the organisms living within it.

Throughout the week, pupils celebrated the natural beauty of the local area, enjoyed a locally sourced picnic-style lunch and explored ways to reduce food waste through lessons and activities across the curriculum.

Bright Green Week provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to learn more about sustainability while discovering how small actions can make a meaningful difference to the environment.
