Recently, our pupils embarked on a powerful and thought-provoking Battlefields Trip across France and Belgium, exploring key sites from the First and Second World Wars.
From standing on historic WWI battlefields to visiting memorials and cemeteries, pupils gained a profound insight into the scale and human impact of the ‘Great War’. These moments brought history beyond the classroom, encouraging reflection, understanding and a deeper sense of empathy, all aligned with our School Values.
The trip also included a visit to a WWII missile site, offering a broader context of 20th-century conflict and its lasting significance.
One of the most moving experiences took place in Ypres, where four pupils had the honour of laying a wreath at the Menin Gate. Taking part in this poignant ceremony was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made and to pay tribute to those who served.
Experiences like this are invaluable in helping our pupils connect with the past, allowing for not only academic understanding but also emotional awareness and respect for history.
