Year 7 Pupils spent three days at Black Rock Outdoors, Cobbs Cross Farm in Bridgewater
This year, our Clifton High School Year 7 pupils spent three days at Black Rock Outdoors, Cobbs Cross Farm in Bridgwater. All Year 7 pupils attended, along with their tutors and Head of Year, Ms Bartlett. It was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to connect and form friendships with their peers, as well as experience some exciting and unforgettable activities.
On arrival at Black Rock Outdoors on Monday morning, the pupils leapt straight into fun team bonding activities, the highlights of which included pupils being tied up with rope ‘handcuffs’ and challenged to untie themselves, using their weight to balance a large wooden beam and even lift each other through an imaginary ‘spider’s web’ without touching the sides. Low ropes involved pupils demonstrating the School values of empathy and curiosity by helping each other cross various sets of ropes and working together as a team to overcome obstacles. Raft building resulted in some challenges, as well as triumphs, as many of our pupils managed to successfully build and ride on a raft made of plastic barrels and ropes, whilst a few teams found themselves getting rather wet and muddy!
After a fun day of activities, staff and pupils were very excited to visit the accommodation – which was a beautiful building located just a short coach journey from the main activity centre. The meal on the first evening was a delicious vegetarian chilli accompanied with garlic bread and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Many of our pupils also discovered the joys of washing up and wiping the tables down, before having some leisure time to unwind in the evening. Staff members were thrilled that, after such a busy day, the pupils slept soundly in their comfortable beds!
Days two and three at the centre involved a carousel of activities, with different groups pursuing a variety of adventures which included: archery, tree climbing, kayaking, paddleboarding and high ropes. The Year 7 feedback voted archery and tree climbing as their favourite activities, with some pupils successfully managing to fire an arrow through an inflated balloon to pop it. Tutor team members as well as Ms Bartlett were elevated to new heights by joining in with the high rope activity and, fortunately, everyone made it back down to earth safely.
Overall, the Year 7 pupils should be delighted with their hard effort and determination in exemplifying the Clifton High values throughout the three-day trip. This will be a memorable first trip as members of the Senior School and we hope they enjoyed every second.
