Grit, determination and positivity: Years 11 and 13 hear from Darren Edwards

Year 13 and Year 11 pupils recently attended a series of revision presentations and workshops to help them prepare for their upcoming GCSE and A level examinations. The sessions aimed to equip pupils with the motivation, tools and skills needed to perform to their absolute best in their mocks and beyond!

The highlight of the day was an inspirational talk from motivational speaker Darren Edwards. Following a near-fatal climbing accident in the summer of 2016, Darren was paralysed from the chest down. He has refused to let the word "disability" define him and instead gone on to undertake several epic (and in some cases, record-breaking) expeditions. Darren had plenty of advice to share with our pupils on how grit, determination and positivity can be harnessed to overcome adversity.

In January 2023, Darren will be taking on his greatest challenge to date: aiming to be the first person with a disability to complete the gruelling World Marathon Challenge (7 marathons, 7 days, 7 continents) unsupported and in a wheelchair. Darren is hoping to raise £100,000 for the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team to pay for 20 injured/wounded veterans to experience the freedom of alpine/nordic skiing (as well as snowboarding) at the annual AFPST training camp in 2023. £100,000 would fund the entire project.
