INFANT SCHOOL ENRICHMENT
A child’s imagination is the cornerstone of the boundless creative energy we encourage at Clifton High School.

Co-Curricular Clubs
The variety of clubs available in the Infant School is wide-ranging, with options for their child to attend based on their interests as well as the skills and attributes they wish them to develop. Most clubs take place after School to enrich and complement our after-School provision.
Clubs are selected each term on a preference basis by parents, using our dedicated online platform SOCS.

Adventure Programme
Our Infant School Adventure Programme has a focus on outdoor education, delivered through Forest and Beach School sessions, tailored to suit the age and development of our children.
Administered by specialist staff at Forestry England, Belmont Estate and Farmlink, alongside class teachers, in weekly or fortnightly timetabled sessions, pupils focus on exploration through play and discovery. They are actively encouraged to be curious about the natural world, gaining confidence in outdoor settings and becoming familiar with programmes centred around farming, rewilding, sustainability, conservation and the wonders of nature.
We enjoy specialist facilities in a variety of locations, including The Downs Preparatory School, Wraxall Piece and Mendip Activity Centre. Throughout the Infant School, we link creative thinking, whether it be through design, construction or science, to prepare children for the introduction of our Pembroke Award in Year 3, where they will work towards a certification in outdoor learning that recognises the varied skills and competencies developed through these activities.
INFANT SCHOOL PERFORMING & CREATIVE ARTS
Speech and Drama
Infant School children are introduced to the joys of performance, helping them develop confidence, communication skills and self-expression from an early age. Incorporated into and beyond the curriculum, lessons provide a strong foundation for the creative development of imaginative play. Using our Rose Theatre and other School spaces, pupils regularly participate in assemblies, performances and festive productions to develop:

Year 6’s participation in The Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival is vital to their learning journey. Not only is their knowledge of Shakespeare enhanced, but so is their imagination and creativity as they translate the chosen play in the classroom to the stage.
Mrs Helen Tabb, Head of Curriculum: Infants & Juniors
In 2024, Year 6 pupils performed an abridged version of The Tempest at The Coram Shakespeare Festival. The children were awarded a welcome introduction talk as well as a backstage tour to showcase the management and lighting of Bristol’s Tobacco Factory, before they took to the stage for their much-anticipated performance.
Music
Music in the Infant School is inspiring, creative and fun. Through engaging and collaborative classroom lessons, singing activities and performance opportunities, children develop skills in listening, rhythm and musical expression. These experiences help pupils build confidence in sharing their achievements with family, friends and the wider School community.
Introducing music lessons in the Infant & Junior School encourages a lifelong passion for the beauty of melodies as well as igniting the fun and spirit of the subject.
Mr Andrew Cleaver, Head of Junior School Music
Arts
Art in the Infant School provides a vibrant introduction to creativity, curiosity and self-expression. Through a wide range of hands-on activities, children are encouraged to explore and experiment with different materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and simple sculpture.
Through Art, Infant School pupils develop imagination, resilience and a love of creative exploration, laying strong foundations for future artistic learning.
