Pastoral Care at Clifton High Infant School | Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 | Independent School Bristol

OUR HOLISTIC APPROACH

We are committed to children feeling safe, secure and supported in small class sizes, which strengthens our excellent pastoral care.

The haven of Clifton High School's Infant School provides exceptional pastoral care, delivered by a team of qualified teachers who nurture each child's learning and development.

The Infant School combines excellent pastoral care alongside academic teaching to reinforce a sense of security, where Infant School children feel they are valued as members of our School community.

We are committed to promoting a high level of teaching in small class sizes that are supported by both a qualified teacher and a teaching assistant. Our provision includes dedicated one-to-one tutorial sessions, helping staff develop and track children’s emotional, social and physical wellbeing.

Year 2 children support their younger peers in the playground through a Buddy System, and we welcome Senior School pupils to read with them on a weekly basis. These methods of support are the basis for strengthening and stimulating camaraderie throughout the year group.

Our holistic and wellbeing approach to education at Clifton High School also extends from our young learners to their families. We welcome the input and interaction of parents, valuing their involvement in the dynamics of our Infant School community. We welcome parents to visit our children to speak about their careers, cultures and interests. Regular written reports, meetings and an open-door approach ensure that any issues with a child’s welfare or academic progress are quickly realised. We recognise and celebrate all children’s achievements, identifying individual provisions. If we feel academic and/or pastoral progress is not on target, we connect with parents to identify the areas that may require careful consideration. If required, our experienced Enhanced Learning Department (ELD) creates a bespoke programme that supports learning and/or speech and language development.
