DEANFIELDS GEOGRAPHY TRIP

Developing fieldwork skills, curiosity and community in the Forest of Dean

Clifton High School’s Year 10 Geography pupils recently enjoyed a successful residential trip to the Forest of Dean, based at the Deanfields Study Centre. Over two days, pupils developed their fieldwork data collection skills through hands‑on investigations of both urban environments and river systems, using a wide range of fieldwork equipment to support their learning.

The trip encouraged curiosity as pupils explored real‑world geographical processes beyond the classroom, testing ideas, gathering evidence and thinking critically about their surroundings.

Alongside the academic focus, there was a strong sense of community, with pupils supporting one another during team‑building activities, bonding during a night walk and coming together around a campfire. The residential offered a valuable blend of challenge, discovery and shared experiences, strengthening both geographical understanding and connections within the group.
