Life in the Sixth Form
Our co-educational Sixth Form is a thriving centre of excellence within Clifton High School with our students playing an important part in the whole School community. Through leadership roles such as Head Boy, Head Girl, Head of House or Sports Captain the students become involved in the running of the School and are a shining example to the younger students, inspiring them for their future.
We expect excellent academic results from our students and at the same time want them to be fully prepared for a university education. The teaching style at Clifton High School Sixth Form encourages students to become more independent learners. The teaching style is much less formal, conducted in a seminar style allowing students to engage in more discussion. This helps to develop their analytical skills and confidence in their abilities. University study is very much self-directed and we teach our Sixth Form students to develop these skills whilst they are with us.
Excellent facilities – our Sixth Form Centre
Year 12 and 13 students benefit from our dedicated Sixth Form Centre, not only a place to study but also to take a break, relax and socialise. To find out more about our Sixth Form Centre and the facilities available to Sixth Form students click here.
Friendly and supportive
A positive, motivated group of young people, the Sixth Form at Clifton High School is social, supportive and welcoming; these qualities ensure our students thrive during Years 12 and 13. From balancing their studies with their extra-curricular activities, choosing whether to take a year out or making their UCAS application, students will have the support of the Head of School, Head of Sixth Form, Head of Futures and Skills, their tutor and friends.
We encourage students to develop across a variety of areas, both academically, for example in the combination of subjects they choose to study, and socially, in the groups in which they mix and the activities on which they embark. During the Sixth Form you will be able to engage in a number of extra-curricular activities which will provide you with experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime. You will be encouraged to experiment with new things and get involved with schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award. There are also a wide range of lectures, workshops, visits, trips and tours. Academic work is important in Sixth Form life, but it is not the only aspect of it.
Promoting independence and confidence
During your time in the Sixth Form you will be given more freedom to organise your own time. Smart business dress will replace school uniform and you will have the option to leave the School site during lunchtime. Futures and Skills sessions will provide invaluable training for life beyond Clifton High.
