Life in the Junior School
Each school day is divided into six teaching periods and the curriculum runs in a fortnightly cycle with a different timetable each week. Children enjoy varied lessons and learning focuses on a different, exciting theme each term. Each class has its own dedicated classroom and specialist teaching takes place across the school site be it in the Junior Art room, the Music Department or in the on-site gymnasium and swimming pool. We also use our excellent outdoor facilities for hands-on learning.
Children in Years 3 to 6 attend school between 8.30am and 3.35pm each day.
Wrap-around care is provided for a small charge. Children in the Junior School are welcome to attend Early Birds which provides morning care from 8.00am until the start of School. They can also attend Homework Room until 4.10pm or our After School Activity Club until 6.00pm.
In the Junior School morning break takes place from 10.55am-11.15am and children are asked to bring in their own healthy mid-morning snack. Lunch is provided in the school Dining Hall and the lunch break runs between 12.05pm and 1.20pm.
Children in the Junior School can also choose from a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs and individual music lessons which take place before and after school and during lunchtime. Music lessons can also be timetabled to take place before, after or throughout the school day.
As an all through school, we encourage children of all ages to interact with each other, making the transition through the school a seamless experience. Our Buddy system ensures children in the Infants and Juniors spend time together and our Junior Leadership programme is designed in vertical classes, meaning children in Years 3 to 6 work together in small teams to deliver projects. Sixth form students and Duke of Edinburgh pupils, from the Senior school, also help the younger children with their reading and comprehension.
