Explorer Al Sylvester Visits Clifton High School

Clifton High School had an incredible visit from explorer Al Sylvester on Thursday 11th January.

He delivered a captivating talk to both reception and Year 6 children. Al shared the story of when he recounted his team's 7-week survival in tents in Antarctica, covering 600 nautical miles while skiing to the South Pole without support. He drew comparisons between his team and the expeditions led by Sir Ernest Shackleton and Sir Robert Falcon Scott. His presentation concluded with a reflection on the effects of frostbite and the mental resilience needed for recovery, demonstrating leadership by example.

In addition, Al showcased the actual kit he wore during his extensive Antarctic journey and provided Year 6 Children with the opportunity to dress up as explorers.
