Twelve Year 9 pupils travelled to the Bristol Aerospace Museum on Tuesday to participate in the much-anticipated Flying Start Regional Finals.
The challenges involved firstly completing a quiz on what they had learnt when the aerospace engineers visited Clifton High, creating and presenting a poster to a committee of judges. Pupils also had the opportunity to tour the museum, which involved walking underneath and around the Concorde.
The next stage was the important glider fly-off. After some very successful flights, tensions were high during the final meeting in the auditorium for the announcement of the results. Clifton High’s team ‘Jam’ (James, Alexandra, James and Maddi) achieved a fantastic 4th place out of around twenty teams and our team ‘BFG’ (Max, Primrose, Fran and Briac) outperformed all other schools to win the event!
Team ‘BFG’ has been invited to compete in the Grand Final, with team ‘Jam’ also invited to attend. All pupils represented the school superbly - well done to all those involved for their enthusiasm and commitment!
“What a great day! We had such fun and enjoyed the friendly competition against the other schools. Everyone performed excellently, and one of the Clifton High teams won! A time to be remembered for sure.” – Year 9 pupil
