On Wednesday, Heidi and Laura in Year 12 were asked to speak at the Data for Development Festival at the Council Chamber in the Bristol City Hall, debating whether data privacy concerns are obstructing our ability to use data to transform and save lives.
Laura was part of the opposition team, joining people from the Worldwide Web Foundation, the Government Equalities Office and the Open Government Partnership. Heidi was part of the proposition team with people from the International Development Research Centre, the Office for National Statistics and Joint IDP Profiling Service.
Both made valuable contributions to their team’s speeches and arguments. It was a very close run debate and the opposition team narrowly won the vote.
